At The Nook, we are committed to providing clear and transparent information about our property to ensure all guests can determine if our unique offering meets their individual needs. Designed as a handcrafted, luxurious tiny house specifically for romantic escapes, The Nook's unique architecture and intimate footprint mean it has inherent characteristics that may limit comprehensive accessibility for all visitors.
This guide aims to provide an honest overview of our current accessibility features and limitations. We strongly encourage you to review this information carefully and, if you have any specific requirements or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us directly before booking your stay.
Our Design Philosophy & Context
The Nook was meticulously crafted to offer a secluded, intimate, and sustainable experience for couples, deeply integrated with the natural environment of the Grampians/Gariwerd. While this design creates a truly special atmosphere, it means that certain aspects of universal accessibility were not the primary focus during its construction.
Key Accessibility Features & Inclusive Practices
Dietary Requirements
We proactively ask all guests for their dietary preferences or allergies during the booking process. We tailor each welcome hamper to accommodate these specific needs (e.g., providing dairy-free or gluten-free), ensuring all visitors can enjoy their local treats without concern.Communication: We strive for clear, inclusive, and prompt communication. The owner-operator, Benj, is readily available via phone and email to answer any questions about the property or local area, and to discuss individual needs prior to booking.
Quiet & Secluded Environment
For guests seeking a low-stimulus environment, The Nook offers a peaceful and secluded retreat, minimising external noise and disturbances.
Key Accessibility Limitations
Given its tiny house design and setting, the Nook has the following limitations regarding comprehensive accessibility:
Mobility & Physical Access
Steps/Stairs: Access into the Nook (both front and side entrances) involves steps. Internally, there are changes in level to the mezzanine bedroom.
Compact Interior: The Nook's compact design means that there are tighter turning radiuses as well as raised/stepped entrances, these may not accommodate wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or those requiring significant space for movement.
Bathroom: The bathroom is a standard small size, and does not feature grab bars, or other specialised accessibility fixtures.
Outdoor Terrain: The property is set on natural, uneven terrain with a native garden. Paths may be unpaved or gravel, presenting challenges for mobility aids.
Visual Impairment
While The Nook is well-lit, there are no specific features such as tactile paving, braille signage, or auditory cues for guests with visual impairments.Hearing Impairment: There are no specific visual alerts for alarms or telephone systems for guests with hearing impairments.
Assistance Devices: Due to the compact nature, guests relying on larger assistance devices (e.g., large electric wheelchairs) may find movement challenging.
Important Note for Guests
The Nook On The Hill is not a universally accessible property for individuals with significant mobility impairments or a wide range of other access needs. Our commitment is to transparency, so we urge you to thoroughly consider these limitations and, most importantly, contact us directly before making a reservation to discuss your specific requirements. We want to ensure that the Nook is the right fit for your stay and that your experience is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
